ANN ARBOR, MI — RYAN STANTON – MLIVE – Broadway Park West will host a five-week storytelling series for families this August, offering free outdoor performances along the Huron River in Ann Arbor.
The programs will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays, Aug. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, featuring award-winning storyteller Steve Daut. Each week will present a different storytelling adventure designed to engage children and families in the natural setting of the park.
Daut brings more than 35 years of performance experience to the series, with a background in improvisation, sketch comedy and live theater. He trained at The Second City and the Purple Rose Theatre Actor-Director Lab.
His interactive performances incorporate audience participation, movement, expression and character work.
Daut’s book of short story adaptations, Telling Twain, received honors from the 2020 Storytelling World Awards.
Broadway Park West, which opened last September, is managed by the nonprofit Lower Town Riverfront Conservancy.
“Our goal is to create shared experiences that families look forward to year after year,” President Alex Milshteyn said. “The Storytelling Series gives children the opportunity to engage their imaginations while enjoying the beauty of Broadway Park West, and we’re thrilled to welcome Steve Daut to help bring those moments to life.”
The series is part of Broadway Park West’s community programming focused on creativity, wellness and recreation.
The park is part of a larger mixed-use residential and commercial development taking shape on the expansive site.
While surrounding structures remain under construction, the park is accessible by foot and bicycle through a pedestrian tunnel off Depot Street or via a pedestrian bridge across the river from the Border-to-Border Trail next to the Argo Cascades.
Automobile access is currently unavailable and motorists should use public parking spaces around the development.
